I had a dream about lampshades, of all things. The next day I was browsing in a thrift store and found a bunch of old lampshades. When I brought them into the studio, I started stacking them in various configurations. After I found the shape I liked best, I took the lampshades apart and starting covering them with paper in different patterns that went in different directions. The base is constructed with tulle, recycled folders from my former job, joint compound, and paper. WHIRLING stands about 59" high and is on a diameter of about 41." This piece will probably stay in my studio since I wasn't able to get it through the door. |
