Temple Totem

Temple Totem -- photo by Sienna M Potts -- artwork © Shelley Martin

I had been planning a trip to Ankhor Wat in Cambodia and did a little temple building before I went. This sculpture is approximately 59" x 14" x 18." It is built on a metal rod, with recycled boxes, cardboard, rag papers, and sheetrock compound, glue and sealant. I have long been interested in totems and the ways objects, forms and symbols build on one another and are dependent on one another. Totems are a metaphor for how we continue to evolve, based on what has come before us and what will come after.
